{"id":315,"date":"2013-01-15T13:29:25","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T20:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wholebible.com\/blog\/?p=315"},"modified":"2013-05-22T17:21:50","modified_gmt":"2013-05-22T23:21:50","slug":"teachings-of-paul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wholebible.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/15\/teachings-of-paul\/","title":{"rendered":"Teachings of Paul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"userContent\" data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\">&#8216;Whole Bible Christianity,&#8217; chapter 7, &#8216;Teachings of Paul&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>If the Law had been \u2018fulfilled,\u2019 (twisted to mean \u2018eliminated\u2019) then the following is a very curious thing for Paul to say.<\/p>\n<p>1It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father\u2019s wife. 2You have become arrogant and have not mourne<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">d instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst. (<a class=\"bibleref\" title=\"1 Corinthians 5:1-2\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esvbible.org\/search\/1%20Corinthians%205.1-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">1 Corinthians 5:1-2<\/a> NASB95)<\/p>\n<p>Why would he care about a man who marries his stepmother? Wouldn\u2019t all marriages be okay? According to the modern church, isn\u2019t everything and everyone clean? Why would Paul appeal to the Law at all (<a class=\"bibleref\" title=\"Leviticus 18:8\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esvbible.org\/search\/Leviticus%2018.8\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leviticus 18:8<\/a>; <a class=\"bibleref\" title=\"Deuteronomy 22:30\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esvbible.org\/search\/Deuteronomy%2022.30\/\" target=\"_blank\">Deuteronomy 22:30<\/a> and 27:30)? Why also would Paul appeal to the fact that this is something even Gentiles didn\u2019t do?<\/p>\n<p>There might be a thin argument here for the fictitious \u2018moral law.\u2019 Except how do we pick and choose what is \u2018moral\u2019 and what isn\u2019t when God speaks? Isn\u2019t everything He says by definition \u2018moral?\u2019 Could it be that the congregation had changed the law to say that \u2018everything was clean?\u2019 Were they perhaps practicing their \u2018freedom in Christ?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Paul doesn\u2019t make up any new commandment here. He certainly doesn\u2019t cherry-pick nor does he apply only the law he chooses. Not only does he say that the Corinthians should be following this Law, he implies it is a natural fact everyone (even the non-believing Gentiles) knows. In other words, God\u2019s people should at least have the sense God gave a pagan. He also gives the punishment for the sin outlined in Torah (\u201cremove the evil from your midst\u201d).
